Chicago Weddings
Chicago is one of America’s most cultured cities, offering everything from world class performing arts to top notch professional sports. It is a city steeped in history and affluence that still retains its friendly Midwestern outlook. Visitors to Chicago will find a stop at the Chicago Cultural Center is a must for understanding all the wealth that Chicago has to offer.
Originally dedicated at the Chicago Public Library in 1897, the Cultural Center building is a historic Chicago landmark. Designed in the Beaux-Arts Style, this remarkable structure was inspired by the neo-classical style of the buildings completed for the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893. The interior is rich with fine marbles, hardwood, stained-glass, polished brass and breathtaking mosaics of Favrile glass, colored stone, and mother –of-pearl. The 38 foot dome in the Preston Bradley Hall is the largest Tiffany stained-glass dome in the world, estimated to be worth $35 million. The building was placed on the National Historic Register and in 1991 became the Cultural Center, serving as a comprehensive showcase for arts in Chicago. The building is the backdrop for hundreds of admission-free programs and exhibitions offered annually by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. Through collaborative programming, the Cultural Center offers events featuring performing, visual, and literary arts on virtually every day of the year. The Center also functions as a Visitors Center and is the starting place for many of the city’s tours.
The spaces in the center perform multiple functions, from public performances and exhibits to private parties and weddings. The spectacular Preston Bradley Hall is the Center’s major concert hall and a magnificent setting for public programs and weddings. The G.A.R. Rotunda and Memorial Hall are public exhibition spaces that also serve as an alternative to Marriage Court for civil weddings. The Sidney R. Yates Gallery displays major art exhibitions while the Michigan Avenue Galleries showcase works in more intimate settings. The Dance Studio provides performance and rehearsal space while the Claudia Cassidy Theater is home to music, dance, literary and theatre presentations, and The Studio Theater offers a “black box” space for performance.
